I have been at UTS as an exchange student from Germany, and my time in Down Under was an unforgettable experience! Already fallen in love with Australia during my gap year in 2023 (between my Bachelor's and Master's), the desire to return was strong, and the semester abroad at UTS seemed to be the perfect opportunity for that. Sydney is a vibrant city with fantastic beaches like Bondi or Manly, which quickly became my favorite spots - for surfing (well, trying at least), jogging, or just hanging out with new friends. Besides university life, there was also plenty of time to explore Australia!
A special highlight was a road trip along the East Coast during our Study Vacation. Since I had already seen some places during my gap year, this time I decided to fly to Brisbane and drive up to Cairns by car. This journey offered me a wonderful mix!

Our route took us through some iconic spots: We started in Brisbane before heading north. Noosa welcomed us with its famous beaches, beautiful national park for hiking, and a relaxed vibe. Next was Agnes Water and the nearby Town of 1770, offering a touch of history (it’s Captain Cook's first landing spot). Airlie Beach served as our gateway to the stunning Whitsunday Islands – a must-see with white sandy beaches and turquoise waters. From Townsville, we took the ferry to Magnetic Island, a haven for wildlife like wild koalas and beautiful bays for relaxing. Our journey ended in Cairns, the perfect base for exploring the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest.
Studying in Sydney and the chance to (re)discover Australia this way was an incredibly
enriching experience. From the stunning landscapes and relaxed culture to new friendships,
every day felt like an adventure. If you're considering a semester abroad: Go for it! Australia,
especially Sydney, has so much to offer, and it will become an experience you'll never forget.
