Looking for a day trip in the winter months?
Updated: May 2, 2019
Hi everyone!
I’m Charlotte from Germany. I’m doing my Master degree in Legal Management at the HTWG Konstanz and this term I took three law courses and one business course at UTS.
I can’t believe that the semester has gone past so quickly. It doesn’t seem like long since I arrived in Sydney in mid-February and started to explore this amazing city. The orientation days organised by the UTS and the housing were very helpful and great fun. Meeting people from all over the world was fascinating and I soon began to feel at home in this exciting city.
Despite having plenty of work to do for my courses I tried to visit as many places in and around Sydney as possible. If you like hiking, the Blue Mountains are the perfect place for you. Closer to UTS, the coastal walk from Bondi to Coogee gives you plenty of chances to take beautiful photos! If you like sunsets as much as I do you must go to Milk Beach or Dudley Page Reserve. From these places you have a fantastic view of the sun setting behind the skyline.
After submitting our last assignment, some friends and I enjoyed a day trip to the Royal National Park. We took the train to Cronulla (1 hour) and then went by boat (30 min) to the entrance to the National Park in Bundeena. The boat trip was very calm, the scenery was beautiful – a good start to the day! We decided to walk along Jibbon Beach and eventually got to the coastal trail. After a few minutes on the coastal track we had a real stroke of luck and saw several whales quite close to the shore. One kept jumping out of the water. It was amazing! We walked as far as Wedding Cake Rock but since we had watched the whales for quite a long time we had to return shortly after that to reach the boat on time.
I would recommend planning this trip a bit since the boat only leaves once an hour. It’s definitely advisable to take some food and drinks along with you - there are only a couple of spots to refill your water bottles. All in all this is a great day trip for the Australian winter.
