Ramona in #TakeOverTuesday

Ramona Mahrer Basel, Switzerland

My name is Ramona and I am an International Management student from Basel, Switzerland.

Why I chose UTS/Sydney for Study Abroad:

I knew from the beginning on that I would like to study in an English-speaking country to improve my language skills. While I have already been to the United States and England several times, I have not been to Australia and therefore thought this is the perfect opportunity for me. I choose Sydney because it has great climate and there’s always plenty to do.

A typical day

A typical day in Sydney doesn’t much differ from a typical day in Basel. I tend to get up really early and go for a run along the Darling Harbour. I really enjoy having all my lectures in the morning, because that means I get to enjoy the city during the afternoons. I usually go for a walk in different neighborhoods always looking out for a new Café spot. I usually have dinner at home and before going to bed I do my homework.

When I am not studying you most likely find me…

In Surry Hills. I absolutely love this neighborhood and can highly recommend it to everyone! Surry Hills has great little independent interior and book stores and Cafés. I especially like the Provider Store and Bourke Street Bakery. I also really like to go to the local markets such as the Glebe Markers and the Carriageworks Farmers Market. Other than that, I enjoy going to Manly Beach especially for the Manly to Spit walk.

My favorite thing about my experience so far… Definitely all the people I have met so far and the experiences we had together! During StuVac I travelled from Cairns to Brisbane with three friends and among other things we got to see the Great Barrier Reef and Whitehaven Beach. That were two of my favorite experiences I had so far in Australia.

Something I want to tick off my bucket list

I can already tick it off my bucket list. Juhui! Before coming to Australia, I knew that I wanted to go snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef. During StuVac I was able to do that and enjoyed every second of it.

My one must visit in Australia

It is hard to point out one “must visit” in Australia because Australia offers so many amazing and different sightseeing attractions. I think for me it’s Whitehaven Beach, which was even more beautiful in reality.

See ya,

Ramona
