Student Housing Experiences

Hey guys! In this post you'll be able to read some interviews I conducted with study abroad and international students to give you an idea of what type of housing you should get!

Smruti Agarwal

From: India

Accommodation type: On campus (Yura Mudang)

I chose to live on campus because it is so close to uni, classes are just 5 minutes away. Plus you make friends easily. It is very comfortable and good to make new friends and study.

I live in a 6 share apartment with friends I made in housing which whom I go out regularly.

What was your first impression about your new home?

My first impression of my new home was that it seemed like a party place.

What's the advantage of living on campus?

Living in housing is really good for students, It is safe, secure, full of people, extremely central and super close to university. I've started living off campus and I miss the advantages of living in housing.

What's your favourite part of studying on Sydney?

Sydney is a beautiful city and there are so many things to do here. Great food, great people, great vibe.

Are you enjoying studying at UTS?

I really enjoyed studying at UTS, housing was a great experience! My subjects were interesting too! I would highly recommend UTS to my friends.

Pablo Coindreau

From: Mexico City

Accommodation type: Off Campus, leasing a place.

I chose leasing a place because I live with a group of friends who all study in different universities. We needed to find a place in a central place so it was fair for everyone! Finding a place was very hard, it took us about 2 weeks to find one but now I think it's totally worth it.

What was your first impression about your new home?

I was so happy when I first saw the house, I knew I was going to have a great time there! My only concern was the distance between home and uni but now I'm used to it.

What do you think its the main difference of living off campus than on campus housing?

I think the main difference is that there are no rules, and you have to take care of everything like paying the bills like water, wifi, gas etc... instead of just paying a monthly or weekly fee. Even if there are no specific rules it doesn't mean we can have a party at home... Our neighbours get so angry. Another difference is that while living on campus you can make friends easier because it's full of students looking to meet new people.

What's your favourite part of studying on Sydney?

My favourite part is going to the beach whenever I have free time, I also like the variety of activities you can do around the city.

Are you enjoying studying at UTS?

Yes! I can say it's been an awesome experience! I don't want to leave :(

Arpit Chawla

From: India

Accommodation type: Off Campus, leasing a place.

I chose leasing a place because it was cheaper and it was also a good way to get involved with the local community. I live alone. I basically wanted to live alone as I have lived in share houses before. I like it this way now.

What was your first impression about your new home?

It was a quiet place, which is just what I wanted at the time.

Have you met new friends in your current accommodation? Do you spend time, go out or have fun with them regularly?

I have not made friends in my current house because I live alone but I have made quite a few friends near my house. We meet weekly for dinner or for some footy in the park!

What's your favourite part of studying on Sydney?

Meeting a lot of new people from all over the world. Sharing and learning from their cultures. That would be the bet part.

Are you enjoying studying at UTS?

Yes, definitely yes!! Infrastructure is brilliant and it has a good social feel. There's not a single day when you feel bored in here!

Accommodation type: Off Campus, leasing a place.

I live with my friends because they are very good company, we decided to rent a place off campus and live together. I tried to live on campus but I didn't got the chance as the waiting list was too much.

What was your first impression about your new home?

Amazing, as it was brand new and I have always wanted to live in a new place from the first day I came to Sydney.

What do you think its the main difference of living off campus than on campus housing?

Living off campus and living in your own rented apartment both feel like home, and while living in student accommodation there is always party time and some ground rules.

What's your favourite part of studying on Sydney?

Meeting people with different cultures, sharing and learning cultural experience.. and beer.

Are you enjoying studying at UTS?

Yes, pretty much!
